Location: Tomokoni mine

Cornelio Saavedra Province
Potosí Department
Bolivia
Description: An excellent specimen of the hydrated iron phosphate Vivianite. Two parallel, 2.5 cm long crystals of translucent, metallic, electric sea-blue-green, lie flat against a rounded cavity within a matrix of red argillaceous sandstone. Four well-developed and terminated sprays of glassy-white Baryte crystals, to 9 mm, sit next to the Vivianite. It is likely that the rounded vugs once held fossil shells, from where the Vivianite's phosphate was derived. From the Tomokoni mine in the Machacamarca District of Bolivia.
